Below is a job description for a new senior software engineer position 
in Duke's Office of Web Services.  Duke has recently contracted with 
Zope Corp. to develop an enterprise web content management system.  The 
person in this position will initially focus on the implementation and 
deployment of this system.

TITLE:  Senior Web Software Engineer
Salary:  $55,000 - $65,000
Band:  D

Occupational Summary:
The Senior Web Software Engineer is responsible for the design and 
implementation of enterprise web-based systems and services.  The 
initial project for this position will be the implementation of an 
enterprise web content management system based on the Zope platform.  
The position requires an individual with significant experience in web 
application development, Python programming, and general Unix systems 
operation.  The Senior Web Software Engineer must also demonstrate 
excellent communication skills and the ability to lead small software 
development teams.

Education:  BS/BA in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related 
field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Four or more years of web application development 

Technical Skills:
• Significant experience programming enterprise-scale web applications 
in one of Java, Python, C, Tcl/Tk, etc. on a UNIX platform.
• Familiarity with web markup and scripting languages (HTML, XHTML, 
CSS, XML, Javascript)
• Understanding of object-oriented programming
• Knowledge of software engineering concepts (requirements management, 
development models, testing, documentation)
• Significant understanding of relational database concepts and 

• Web user interface design and implementation
• Usability experience
• C and Java programming experience
• Experience with other web technologies (XML-RPC, SOAP, XSLT)
• Familiarity with LDAP-based directory systems
• Significant experience with the Python programming language and Zope 
content management products
• Experience with PL/SQL, ANSI SQL, Oracle, Postgres, MySQL

Soft Skills:
