Software Development position at NV Access Limited

NV Access is a global non-profit organisation, based in Australia, 
dedicated to the ideal that access to technology should not incur an 
extra cost for blind and vision impaired users. The purpose of NV Access 
is to lower the economic and social barriers associated with accessing 
Information Technology for people who are blind or vision impaired. NV 
Access develops the free, open source Python-based NVDA screen reading 
software for Microsoft Windows, enabling more than 70,000 blind and 
vision impaired people across the globe to access computers.

We are now looking to grow our small team and appoint another full-time 
software developer. Your work will focus on supporting the Founders with 
daily development and maintenance of the NVDA screen reader. The 
accountabilities of this role include the following and more:

* General development of the NVDA screen reader, including bug fixes, 
research and new features
* Writing of both end user and technical documentation
* Quality assurance for NVDA, including triage, testing and debugging
* Interaction with and provision of assistance to the NVDA development 
community, including code review
* Maintenance and administration of development infrastructure such as 
the translations system and GitHub
* Working with open source projects used by NVDA to fix bugs or 
implement required features
* Working with application developers to improve accessibility, 
including filing bug reports and occasionally submitting patches
* Contribution to and interaction with accessibility communities
* Occasional provision of technical support to end users
* Assisting the Founders with research and development of future projects

Your key attributes will be:
*Advanced understanding of object oriented programming and design
* Ability to pick up new concepts and technologies quickly and follow 
agile development methodologies
* Understanding of/keen interest in accessibility
* Good communication skills
* Self motivated
* Python development experience
* C++ development experience
* Solid grasp of issue tracking and version control

Highly desirable attributes are:
*Experience in accessibility development
* Windows development experience, especialy Win32 and COM
* A university degree in information technology (or similar)
* Experience in software project management, including triage and planning
* Contribution to open source projects

This role is a 12 month contract. However, a permanent position is 
Salary range is $70,000 to $80,000 + super + salary packaging benefits.
