[Python-au] MySQLdb and Visual Studio 6

A big hello to all you Windows users :)

Mr Google indicates there is no solution to installing Andy Dustman's 
MySQLdb other than first installing MS Visual Studio 6.

The error message I'm getting indicates Python itself was compiled with MS 
VS6 and thus extensions such as MySQLdb also need to be complied in the 
same thing.

I really don't want to install any MS product I don't absolutely have to so ...

Has anyone compiled Andy Dustman's latest MySQLdb 1.1.6 ???

If so, would you like to share it ??
