[Python-au] Saving a Canvas Picture

I want to save a picture created in the Tk Canvas to disk in any format.
I'm using PIL but I found I couldn't actually draw a line using PIL
using their methods.
Anyhow, I'm building a program where I can draw using the Canvas
widgets methods (create_rectangle etc...) so once created does anyone
know how I can either
1. Save the image directly to disk in a useable format by other programs?
2. Send the data to PIL and have it transform the image?
Thanks,
