The relevant item on sys.path is:

That ensures that Python finds your MMTK installation. MMTK then adds
a new item to sys.path, which is the directory which contains its
__init__.py with the value of sys.platform appended. That should yield

   /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/MMTK/linux2

for you, but apparently it doesn't. This happend in MMTK.__init__.

Do you perhaps have multiple MMTK installations on your system? In
that case, your Python could pick up an installation without the
binary modules.

One way to find out is:

python
> import MMTK
> print MMTK.__file__

That should print

   /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/MMTK/__init__.pyc

Any other value is suspect.
